At age seven, Cristiano Alves had his first musical experience. At age ten, within the school band, the clarinet was the instrument that first enchanted his mind. Born in Niterói (RJ), he was taught by José Carlos Castro and many other Brazilian clarinetists and acclaimed international teachers.
Holder of many national awards, graduated summa cum laude at UFRJ, he also has a masters degree from the same college. He is known for hundreds of studio recordings with great names of Brazilian popular music, as well as chamber music and symphonic music. According to Karl Leister (recognized master of the clarinet),"Cristiano é um grande músico, possuidor de uma técnica vigorosa, um som muito potente, fazendo deste disco uma importante referência, especialmente para a discografia do instrumento" (he says: Cristiano is a great musician, possessor of a vigorous technique, a powerful sound, making of this album a powerful reference, especially for the discography of the instrument).
Cristiano often performs outside the country, being invited for recitals, concerts, and master classes to many countries. He is also the first clarinet of both the Orquestra Sinfônica Brasileira and the Petrobrás Sinfônica and teaches the art at UFRJ.
